Hello everyone! Today I have four quick tips for those who are wondering how to prepare for nursing school while taken their general education courses. Let us get started!
Figure out your studying/learning style.
If you watch a lot of nursing Youtubers (check out a list to watch here), you have probably heard this a million and one times, but guys it is so true! Figure out the best way your mind works to learn content.
Learn how to manage your time.
This is very important, I genuinely believe time management is what allows me to still work, go to the gym four times a week, meal prep, volunteer and still study for classes. I also manage to fit in at least an hour to an hour and a half a day to be unproductive to give myself a brain break (or to take a quick nap). Anyways guys, manage your time well learn how to now.
Take Anatomy & Physiology seriously.
This is the basis of everything you will need to know. Make sure you know this information and can explain the physiological processes happening. When you begin to take Pathophysiology and Pharmacology everything will click better.
Make sure your immunizations are up-to-date.
This will help you stay on track. Once you receive that wonderful acceptance letter/email, and the program begins asking you for all of your immunizations you can at least know you are up-to-date. This would allow you to only worry about your TB test and flu shot for the future. I would also recommend you complete your HepB series to get it out of the way (It takes six months if you are not immune). If you are not sure of your HepB immunity you can get a titer drawn.
Take it one day at a time.
Don’t rush! Nursing school will get here before you know it! For now enjoy your general courses and the content. Also take time to do what it is you love and find yourself. If you can figure out what you love (Make healthy decisions people!), you can use those things to help you through nursing school.
Those are my tips for anyone taking pre-reqs! If you have anything to add, leave it in the comments!
