Hello everyone! Today I finally have a positive blog post. I have wanted to give you all a quick life update! If you are curious keep reading…
Accepted into Nurse Externship!
As you can read from the title, I landed a position at the my local hospital as a Student Nurse Extern. I am so grateful and humbled to have been one of forty out of hundreds of applicants. I received my acceptance back in January, but did not want to announce anything until I completed the on-boarding process.
I am so excited! This program is a pipeline program through my other internship, but that does not mean I did not work hard to get to this point. I have had my eye on this externship since the eighth grade. This externship will take up my entire summer. I will only have one week to rest after finals before beginning a nursing schedule of three 12 hour shifts a week. I will be externing on a pediatric unit for a month and then the emergency unit for a month. I am very excited and hoping that I can reignite my passion again.
I am still working.
Yes! I still work on Saturdays (8-5) and Sundays (2-5). Work has been a little crazy because we are quite understaffed, due to a large influx of 2 week notices. As a result, I have been floating between two “departments”. I will explain more about this situation later once I graduate…
I am still volunteering.
Whenever I am on a break from school, I enjoy being a Child Life Volunteer. I still love volunteering in the hospital, because I can observe everyone. I also can envision myself working there once I graduate, especially now that I will be an extern on one of the Peds units during the summer. My last volunteer shift will be this week. I will resume volunteering once externship has ended.
Student organizations.
I am still in one of my school’s honor societies. I have also taken on the role of Secretary of my school’s Student Nurse’s Association chapter! I am very excited, as I enjoy being more active in organizations.
Fitness.
It has been a long time since I have discussed my fitness journey on this blog. I am still lifting four times a week. If anyone has been reading my blog for a while, you will reminder my blog where I opened up about my body image issues. I began taking fitness more serious and I haven’t looked back since! My body weight is exactly the same, but I don’t think I am as skinny-fat as before! I am still a work in progress, but want to share more and encourage others girls in skirts to get active.
Finals
Well, it is finals week… I decided to let you guys know what has been going on. As of today, I have completed my last exam for Pediatrics and ended up finishing the class with a decent grade. It was not the grade I would have liked, but I will take it because I never knew how to study for this instructor. I still want to work in pediatrics, which is great!
